NLC Discusses Local Sex Offender Regulations Print E-mail

ImageRichard Whidden spoke on Tuesday, December 6 on behalf of the National Law Center as a panelist for a presentation entitled “Local Government Regulation of Sex Offenders: Balancing Community Safety and Offenders’ Rights.”

The 90-minute CLE program was a production of the International Municipal Lawyers Association and Municipal Litigation Reporter and looked at local ordinances regulating residency of registered sex offenders as well as ordinances restricting access of sex offenders to city parks. Other speakers included city attorneys from cities which have enacted such ordinances. A CD-ROM of the full conference will be available for three weeks following the conference. NLC Applauds U.S. Supreme Court Ruling 

 in Child Pornography Promotion Case

Court upholds criminal penalties for "pandering" illegal material

 ALEXANDRIA, Va. - May 19, 2008 - The National Law Center for Children and Families (NLC), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation, applauds today's Supreme Court ruling as a victory in the fight to protect children.

The 7-2 ruling in United States v. Williams upheld provisions of the PROTECT Act of 2003 that had been struck down in 2006 by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.  The case focused on the legality of promoting or "pandering" child pornography independent of possessing such materials.
