NLC Director Discusses Local Sex Offender Ordinances Print E-mail
Richard Whidden spoke on Tuesday, December 6 on behalf of the National Law Center as a panelist for a presentation entitled “Local Government Regulation of Sex Offenders: Balancing Community Safety and Offenders’ Rights.” The 90-minute CLE program was a production of the International Municipal Lawyers Association and Municipal Litigation Reporter and looked at local ordinances regulating residency of registered sex offenders as well as ordinances restricting access of sex offenders to city parks. Other speakers included city attorneys from cities which have enacted such ordinances. A CD-ROM of the full conference will be available for three weeks following the conference. NLC Commends Internet Service Providers' Agreement on Child Pornography Access
Cooperation with New York Attorney General acknowledges private sector working to curtail illegal content

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - June 16, 2008 - The National Law Center for Children and Families (NLC), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation, commended three Internet service providers (ISPs) for an agreement to purge their servers of child pornography newsgroups and Web sites.

In addition to restricting customer access to the illegal material, the ISPs - Verizon, Time Warner Cable and Sprint - agreed to donate more than $1 million to be used for additional anti-child pornography efforts within the attorney general's office and through nonprofit organizations.
