The NLC PROTECTS National Seminar was a great success,
drawing 301 law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and child advocates to Orlando from January
20-22, 2009.Representing 37 states, the
attendees had sixty breakout sessions to choose from during the free training.
At the conclusion of the seminar, attendees provided
anonymous feedback concerning each presentation and the seminar as a
whole.One respondent commented that
"the speakers were wonderful!They made
the subject matter very understandable without dumbing it down."Others reported that the seminar as a whole
was "excellent...with a wide range of courses and topics" and provided a "great
opportunity to network and share information."
Ninety-two percent of attendees reported that the seminar met
or exceeded their expectations, with 97% indicating that they would be
interested in attending another similar training.
The NLC PROTECTS National Seminar was the 15th in
a series of training programs funded by the U.S. Department of Justice. To date, the NLC has trained nearly 1,500 law
enforcement professionals around the country.
Concurrent with the National Seminar, The Child Defenders' Technology Expo was also a triumph. 14 companies and organizations displayed their tools
and solutions to address child sexual exploitation. The NLC thanks the
following companies for their support of the Expo:

The Washington DC Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has named NLC Executive Director Richard Whidden to the 13th Citizen's Academy. This eight week academy will review various types of crimes the FBI investigates including crimes against children and allows community leaders to learn more about the Bureau's mission, standards and procedures.
"It is an honor to be accepted into the FBI's Citizen's Academy and I look forward to learning more about the Bureau's enforcement efforts that defend children and our nation every day. " said Richard Whidden. "This opportunity provides a great chance to better understand enforcement efforts and help the NLC continue to serve child defenders in law enforcement across the nation."
