National Law Center Trains 1,000 Investigators and Prosecutors Print E-mail

Alexandria, VA – The NLC PROTECTS Seminar Series reached a milestone in May 2008 – the successful training of 1,000 law enforcements officers and prosecutors.  At thirteen seminars across the country, representatives of state, local, and federal agencies have learned best practices for investigating and prosecuting child sexual exploitation cases from renowned experts.

All seminars feature presentations on topics such as child pornography investigation and prosecution, human trafficking, peer-to-peer networking, sex offender management, interviews and interrogations, computer forensics, and online social networking.

“I appreciated the caliber of instructors with regard to their accomplishments and experiences and their dedication and passion.  I received a wealth of information and learned about the resources available to help my investigations,” commented an attendee from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

According to Tiffany Richards, NLC PROTECTS Program Director, “One of the best parts of our seminar series is that the presenters are active in the field.  They investigate and prosecute these cases; they monitor sex offenders; they keep current on technology.  This lets them teach from experience and they can relate directly to the audience.”

The success of the Seminar Series is due in part to the generous support of co-sponsors, such as the Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center (Sevierville, Tennessee), the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.

“Defending children is our top priority.  By providing this training, we’re giving law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to catch predators and prevent the further victimization of children,” said NLC Executive Director Richard Whidden.

The NLC will continue its mission by training approximately 100 law enforcement officers and prosecutors from Missouri and Illinois on June 24-25.  This seminar is co-sponsored by the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Southern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, and Eastern District of Missouri, and the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission.  Registration is open until June 18.  Details are available online at www.nationallawcenter.org/seminars.

The NLC is also pleased to announce the NLC PROTECTS National Seminar, to be held January 20-22, 2009 in Orlando, Florida.  This training will feature more than 80 workshops with practical, hands-on information.  To be added to our mailing list, please send an e-mail to seminars@nationallawcenter.
