The National Law Center for Children and Families is working to forge a connection between the law enforcement community and the technological innovators of the private sector to combat child exploitation. This is a proactive endeavor to unite the forces that battle child exploitation in our country. The private sector, especially in the high-tech arena, has much to bring into this battle, and the NLC wants to act as the catalyst to bring these forces together. On January 20-22, 2009, the NLC will host the first annual Child Defenders' Technology Expo in Orlando, Florida. The technology expo is aimed at all levels of law enforcement to encourage collaboration and networking among those working in the field and will run concurrently with the NLC PROTECTS National Seminar.

The Expo is inspired by the NLC's successful PROTECTS training program, which has trained more than 1,000 law enforcement personnel since 2006. With Internet child exploitation crimes on the rise, coupled with continued sex offender management deficiencies, it's more important than ever for law enforcement investigators to understand the latest tools and techniques that can result in stronger cases and  convictions.

The Expo also will feature hardware and software manufacturers specializing in digital forensics, evidence collection and sex offender monitoring. Attendees can receive hands-on instruction and one-on-one attention from product experts as they learn how to harness the power of technology to protect children.
